My First Slipjoint
I recently took Don Robinson's class on making a slipjoint. I've made several framelocks and a couple of liner locks, but this was my first attempt at making a slipjoint. I owe Don a big thank you for all his help; this knife actually turned out OK. Normally it takes three or four attempts for me to make a decent knife.
Let me know what you think. Philip __________________ n/a Last edited by philip bradford; 04-06-2006 at 05:52 PM. |

Looks really nice and clean from here. How about a list of materials used? And how did you find the difficulty level compared to the other kinds of folders you've made?

Thanks for the boost, Philip.
Man, you hit the nail on the head with that one!! It's a real beauty. Congratulations, my friend. |

Chris,
I used brass liners (.032), nickel silver for bolsters, jigged bone dyed red, ATS34 3/32 for blade and backspring. I've made around 10-12 knives total (I've lost count) and all but one have been liner locks and frame locks. It was a challenge for me making this slip joint, but I pretty much just followed Don Robinson's very detailed instructions. My biggest obstacle was soldering the bolsters without getting any solder on the side of the joint were the bone scale goes. Judging from your knives on your website, soldering would probably not be an issue for you. Philip __________________ n/a |
