Found steel
Saturday after Famers Market I took a swing by a junk pile that I had been meaning to investigate for awhile. Found 2 pieces of 3"X5"X24" steel in darned good shape. 102 pounds each. I gave one to my buddy who brings me steel sometimes. This stuff is going to make a nice anvil. yeeha! ghostdog |

You ain't no ghostdog, yer a luckdog! That sounds like a great find Keith. Cut it in half and have two different anvils each a foot long. One could be laid down so you have a 5" X 12" work surface. The other could be turned up so that you have a 3" X 12" work surface. I can see all kinds of possibilities. |

Dana, thanks. I am very pleased to be still online as well. Max, yup, real fortunate. I am gonna cut mine and use it all in one anvil. Gonna cut a hardy hole, 1 and a quarter inches and throw some feet on. Should end up with about 140 pounds. How is your hand doing? ghostdog |

It'll always be a problem Keith, but I can use it ok. I finally fired up the forge last week and forged a small neck knife just for practice. Just like riding a bicycle! I can control the hammer well enough and my grinder takes over from there. I've been working on treadle hammer dies while out of action. I'm getting some good dies for general purpose forging made up. Slow but sure. Sure beats buying them. Cha-Ching!!! |

Glad to hear your hand is coming. As long as you can control it I guess your body will make adjustments as needed. I been collecting material for a treadle hammer. I think I am just about there. Just need some rod material. I am going to use 6 inch pipe for my uprights because I got some for free. ghostdog |
