My first two knifes.
Well here are a couple pics of my first two knifes. The first one is "The Shark" and the second one is "The killer Whale" lol.
I keep pulling my first knife out and experimenting on it with sanding and finishing ideas.I had quite a few screw ups and uh ohs on it. As you can see im still struggeling with the scratches but im learning! Feel free to give any advice. |

OH!!! You are so hooked now.
On your finish go 400 grit and sand in one direction from handle to point. Gives a nice satin finish. I really like the 2nd knife. On the first my only recommendation would be to round off the corners on the bottom of the handle. more of a hog belly look between the finger grooves. Great looking first blades. WARRNING: Next to Crack, knifemaking is the most addicting thing you can do. |

Andy is so right. You've got it bad! Welcome to the club Shank.
Great first goes man. I agree with Andy about the second one. Shows a lot of improvement. The cord wrap really fits the style. The blade shape on the first one reminds me of a knife some company use to make to sale to turkey hunters. The legs reminded me of it, but can't remember who though. Anyway, as Andy said, rounding the edges on the finger grips should really smooth up the look. But I like the shapes on both blades. You're right, scales are a pain in the butt. I HATE making full tang knives. And I don't do exposed pins at all. Having said that, if you decide to do full tang and scales again...there are a couple things to make it easier. If you keep having trouble let us know and we'll help. Personally, I'd just do hidden tang and call it a day. But that's just me. ;~) Keep at it, it does get easier to figure out. And you're off to a great start. chiger, |
