Blade stamping, fake?

Looks like a good stamp to me. This is a new or newer blade. This deeper indentation for the stamp body is partially dependent on the blade heating when the stamp is applied.
This type of stamp-body indentation is seen on occasion, and it seems like it is more common on Randalls in more modern times perhaps after the shop acquired a power hammer to stamp (?). However, the deeper indentation (probably indicating a softer, hotter steel when stamp is applied) should not be taken as an indictation that the blade temper is affected. The stamp is applied during, or at the end of, the anealing process, and hardening (by quenching) takes place later. Regards. Last edited by Jacknola; 03-27-2015 at 09:59 AM. |
