so just something to note if you use a toaster oven get a temp gauge (one of the lil cooking ones from a grocery store) and use that as toaster ovens are way off if you set it at 300 it might be 350 (mine was way off) also what ray mentioned about the oil is important I used to do my knives in batches and used 5 gal buckets for the oil and after a couple of blades went in it heated up the oil so much the knives at the end of the batch were very far off from the beginning just due to oil temp.

Yep.
I use an oven thermometer and a $20 heat gun from Lowes to check temperature plus 3/8" thick steel plates to help minimize the temp swings.

Just an update on the kiln.
I'm passing it on to someone else.
Will be ordering an EvenHeat sometime soon and I'll continue to use my kitchen oven for tempering.
