Not hard. I cut them a little long, push them through with glue or epoxy (let it set). Grind them down to 1/8" clearance on each side then peen them into place. I'm sure others do it different. I don't do nuthin rite.

Do what James said but instead of peining use a spinner on the pin to round the top.....

Like Ray said....You could use a set of pin spinners chucked in a drill press and spin/dome the heads over. A friend made a set of them for me and they work great. Ill add a cple of photos when I get to my home computer (I can't change the resolution and size of photos on my cell phone)

how textured is the antler?

ive trimmed the pins down to about 1/16" (for a 1/8"-3/32" pin) on each side.
then dome each end a bit. run pins through when handle is epoxyed on, and peen them down gently.

this will expand the head of the pin without it getting those sharp edges, or sticking up too far.

as for the other suggestions here...... they all will work. make more knives.... try them all.... use the one that works best for you and whatever you are working on in the future. every technique is another tool in the box.
