0-1 or 1095?
If price doesn't matter, should a newbie start with 0-1 or 1095? Which would make the better blade. Which is the easiest to work with? Is there much difference between 1095 and 1084? What thickness of stock would you recommend for making a trout/bird type knife? This forum and the people responding are the best! Thanks in advance.

Any that you mentioned would make a good knife. The 10xx series is a little cheaper. 1095, or 1084 are very close.
For a B&T, I would use 3/32-1/8". JMO. __________________ Mike |

Thanks
Thanks for your reply Mike H., I really appreciate it. Is there some kind of chart that lists the characteristics of the knife steels, their pros and cons? Again, thanks.

0-1 and 1084 (stock removal) are not "as" difficult to heat treat ,if you are going to forge....5160 or 1084.

steel choice
I agree with Mike as 1095 is more difficult to heat treat than 1084. My suggestion is 1084 or 5160. I started with 5160 and found it a little more forgiving for those learning mistakes. Just my thoughts.
