this is a concern I'm sure
it's why I don't try selling a lot on the forums
selling off the web as much as I do relying on the directories and engines bother me enough now thinking I'll get dropped any time yahoo or Google decides to change their ways drastically. that's pain enough to keep up with..

the forums would be a hard ticket to make a living on with problems like these..
maybe you guys should ask Kevin if he needs some info pointed his way to help out ..

some people look to me like a computer geek, but that's only the ones that know less then me about it.
.funny how that works..I don't know zip compared the puter Geeks out there that know more than me about it....

Dan, I started to sign up for a knifemakers membership last month and got side tracked when my wife was in the hospital for a few days. Sure glad I didn't get around to it now.

unless his host for the domain has a problem I don't see why a single page hasn't been posted..
to explain the situation..unless he is his own host
ho BTW I hope your wife is OK

we just got news mine has to go in after her check up this week and have tests for Uterine Cancer this don't bode well with me..wish her luck guys

As a paying member of BF since the day I joined, I am also a bit concerned that there has been no communication to its members explaining this latest outage. However, what annoys me even more is reading some of the negative and downright derogatory remarks on "other" knife forums (fori?) about this latest BF meltdown (however caused). Guess we're not *really* a "knife community" after all.

At least over here, the topic is being discussed in a civilized fashion. And yes, deserved criticism should be part of that.

(BTW, I spend most of the time at BF for the same simple reason I use a PC instead of a Mac - it's where I started.)

You're 100% right, Dan, I tend to forget names and remember faces. Gets worse with the years. That's why I put my foto in as an avatar...so I can remember that's me who calls himself "fitzo". I see the foto, go, "Cool ink", then realize it's me. Joking, of course. It disturbs me to notice my memory fading a bit to the point I asked my doctor, because it's always been like a trap instead of a sieve. He reached on his belt and pulled out his little tape recorder, saying, "Why do you think I use this?" He got to the point he would double-schedule meetings and forget them both. He told me not to worry about it, it's natural with age.

We'll have Vickie in our prayers..... hang in there.

Definitely. And more.

A positive attitude is the best medicine. My own business partner in my advertising agency had colon cancer and was given, at most, 5 years. That was 23 years ago. He is now 86 years old and in better shape than I am.

I think the monies went into pocket from that site. They certainly have not done it like a business and protected threir investment by purchasing appropiate server/s to keep it running. The search function on that site left a lot to be desired. Which means that the equipment was not appropiate for a site that size.

I am willing to bet that the yearly income would have certaily paid for a dedicated server and bandwidth issues.

My guess, the money was used elsewhere...like personal purchases or whatnot. It's obvious by now that the site is down and the paying members are hung out to dry.

Your mileage may vary.

well it's obvious Kevin is still alive where someone talked to him..
a redirect for the domain from even someone like netnation is only like 39.00 bucks a year
too at least keep us apprized of this stuff.
dang I'd hate to think he'd take the money and run..no... I have more faith In him than that..

I try to make the rounds to most of the knife type forums on the net. I tend to be here more than anywhere simply because I have a forum here. BF was always my second stop after checking my forum here, but the day that I discovered I had to be a paying memeber in order to post in certain areas of BF was the day my participation declined. I still go there occasionally, and sometimes post, but I strongly believe that if a person is paying for a service, that service had better be working and available.....if not, then the paying memebers should be informed why it's not working, and when repairs are expected to be complete.

The folks at Atlanta Virtual (where my website is hosted) send me a notice ANY TIME that a server or service will be down for maintenance, or a problem occurs, with the exact dates and times that I can expect service to be restored. That's customer service...the way it should be.
The issue with BF reminds me of an internet knife magazine deal where folks sent in subscription fees, and nothing ever materialized of the magazine.

The bottom line is... if your a paying customer, you've paid for a service/product, if that service or product is not provided in a timely fashion, and no explaination is given, it's just plain wrong. Altough I like BF, there is no excuse for poor customer service.

I see your point indeed.. and then you have the costs involved in such things
maybe it's time he made some sound business decisions with BFC..but still we don't know the whole story

I tried to get on here after a long absence, was a member before the big change a few years ago. Anyway, I spend most of my time at BF and Don Fogg's but have checked out TKN all along and feel this is a good place also. Blade Forums has been very good to me, I've meet many friends and sold many knives there. My only problem with BF as a paying member is not being notified of problems.
BF is too big to go away, I think it'll be back on line soon.

Glad to be back here.

It is starting to concern me that the forum has been down for so long.
