pocket knife with interesting locking mechanism
hey guys,
I bought a very nice old german made pocketknife on the flea market last weekend. Handle is stag, guard and bolsters are nickel silver and the blade has see some wear and tear. But what is so interesting about this knife, is its locking mechanism. Have a look at pics 23 to 25 on http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292432775 . If needed, use visit01 as username and knives as password. The system consists of a pivottable ring connected with the axis of the folder. When closed, the ring blocks the blade in closed position, when pivoted, the ring enables to open the knife and when open, the ring blocks the blade. Very very clever design. I dont know anything about the origin, but i guess it is made in Solingen (Germany). It is marked GH, on the back of the handle is marked: Gebr. Hollweg's patent. Enjoy, tim |

Tim, I beleive you are talking about twist locks. La Guiole Knives Out of France use this type of lock and I think Cold Steel was using it, also.

The locking mechanism on the German knife is considerably different from Cold Steel's "twist lock." I've not seen one like the one on Tim's knife. Interesting. Any idea how old that knife is, Tim?
