I know the consensus is that simple green leaves a residue, but I have to say it cuts grease like no other. I found out about this stuff long before I ever heard of using it to clean a tang. If I were not lazy and I still had some laying around I would clean with simple green first and then alcohol. Acetone also seems to work fairly well, but everyone seems to agree alcohol is better, so it's what I use. So, if anyone out there has a lot of oils built up on their knife, you can always use simple green first and then clean off the residue.

Maybe it would be a good idea for several makers to use their favorite epoxy on a knife, and then have someone test them all to failure. I'm familiar with West System epoxy and additives, and would make a knife for that purpose.
