Call your broker

This could be one of the best short-sales of the decade:

Segway Sets Course For Stock Market

I think these lines provide a good clue, (emphasis mine):
"And Segway Inc. President and Chief Executive James Norrod, hoping to parlay the growth into a payday for the original investors in the scooter, has made grooming the company for an initial public offering in the next few years a top priority. Norrod said he was brought in as CEO last year for just that purpose by Segway's principal investors...."

At least he's upfront about it.

For the 4,000 - 5,700 dollars they ask for those things, you could buy a decent used car or a good used motorcycle - and not look like a dork, either.

Sounds like the original investors want to bail before the market for this novelty item disappears completely. Why bear all the risk themselves when they can feign excitement about future sales and get others to 'buy them out'.

Those things are dorky as hell!

Last year they had a display of them at a local mall. My son and I took test rides on them. I gotta say that it's a real blast to ride one! If you ever get the chance do it!!

Now, having said that, I wouldn't buy one. It's too expensive and doesn't provide any ability to carry cargo - like a 4 wheeler or a bicycle. Most companies won't touch them because of liability issues.

Speaking of that, the Segway folks are supposedly planning to hit the market with an electric 4 wheeler.

I think Sam is right on the money - grab some cash and bail before the bottom falls out.
