Hey--Can I join in????!!!
Guys, First off, congrats to the other guys who have posted pics of their impressive knives. I was inspired! I bailed on 1/2 day of work on Sat to do what I WANTED to do--get this knife started! Well, I finished it that night as well. (Yeah--do *I* have palm swell....) Here's what I got: DDR-2 kit with maroon micarta scales My features: Disassembled thumbstud with drill chucks and hand rubbed the blade with 400g (whew!) Shaped the scales and the bolsters with a belt sander, as well as hand rubbing the inside of the liners. Hand sanded until real smooth, then buffed the scales on a wheel. Sanded the bolsters with 400g, too. Carved out the port for the thumbstud/lock. Filed the lock for grip. Carved some crazy 'filework' into the G-10 backspacer (What a rookie!) Trimmed down the backside of the ambi thumbstud, cut the top of the user side (I wanted a sharp grip here) Cleaned, washed, assembled with loctite all the screws. I gotta tell ya', this is one of the nicest folders I own. It opens and closes so precisely, and for it's diminutive size has a REAL gratifying click when it snaps open. I had it in my hand for a 3/4-hour trip this morning, and I couldn't stop opening and closing it! I am real pleased. The rounding of all the sharp edges paid off for me, as I like a smooth knife in my pocket with no annoying clip. This is just the ticket. I'm pleased for a first effort, but there's always room for improvement: Coop |
