an addition to my carbon fiber ddr-II
I'm going to try and get this photo up. Using the G10 backspacer I cut out "notches" that matched pieces of mother of pearl I had cut into rectangles, approx. the width of the backspacer, using a diamond wheel on my Dremel. This went through the m.o.p. like butter. I glued the m.o.p. into place with a silicon epoxy and then using the diamond wheel (sanding side) and a lot of sandpaper laid flat, got the inlay down to the same width as the backspacer. You have to make sure it is the exact same width! I finished off with 1500grit sandpaper. I'm really pleased with the results. By the way, 3M makes a plastic cleaner for fine scratches and a plastic polish, both work great on the Carbon Fiber. The handle now has a clear, shiny, "showroom" finish. I found these products at my nearby automotive parts supply store. Thanks, Dennis a6.cpimg.com/image/A8/05/...8017A-.jpg (Hope photo worked this time) [a6.cpimg.com/image/A8/05/...00060-.jpg] |

Very nice addition of pearl. An inexpensive source for thin slices of pearl, abalone, and other interesting components helpful to knifemaking are guitar shop supply outlets like Stewart-MacDonald and Guitar Shop Supply. |
