Talking Knife throwing 101

First of all:Whats wrong with photo

Notice the cieling just above the grinder. Was working on a handle, and accedently stuck the point of the blade into the side of the contact wheel. The end result.

Now I have a new grinding apron.Thought I'd never wear a flack vest again.

Moral of story:BE CAREFULL,PAY ATTENTION!!!!!

Yow!
That had to scare the bejeebers out of you for a few minutes...I'd stuck the tip into the side of a wheel twice and I remember both times. It's spooky...

I had a buffing wheel grab a knife a few years back and pin my baseball cap to the ceiling.................Right through the brim. I shut down the shop and went in the house for the night. NEVER try and work when your brain is tired. (I went to church that weekend) Just glad you were not injured. Merle

Yeesh! I can't even imagine how that happened! Was your grinder going in reverse?

Glad you weren't hurt brother! There's just not enough Andys in the world to go loosing them so freakishly!

I'm not sure how exactly it happened..It did cut a pretty nasty slash in my contact wheel.I saw it hit the tool arm on the grinder after that it was duck and cover.I waited for it to come down but it didn't.Crawled to the other side of the shop befor looking up.I had never done that befor nor do I wish to do it again. That baby was move'in.
The grinder wasn't in reverse. The blade did go fairly deep in the wheel. It must have flipped when it hit the arm. That would have put the direction of flight up.It's kind of funny now but I saw no humor in it yesterday

Very lucky indeed. That would of hurt something aweful. Is the knife salvageable? You should take a pic of htat knife and give it to the recipient. Makes for a great story. Keep one for ourself and when people ask why custom knives are so much more tell them hazard pay.

Better yet, keep the knife where it is. It'll be a constant reminder to keep safe in the shop.

Gotcha! So, guessing from the picture it looks like it penetrated what--an inch or inch and a half? Enough to make me want to start taking nerve pills!

I think I would leave the knife there as a contant reminder to stay alert. I've had knives yanked out of my hands a couple times by grinders and buffers. I've never been hit but it did get the heart rate up for awhile.
