i think u mean to preserve them untill later use.??
i would opt for just a coffee can w/vegtable oil...to store parts
in...it would be much cheaper unless you have a supply of
free wax rings..

toilet bowl ring wax

The wax rings are cheap enough. 99 cents or so at the big discount stores, but who knows what's in them. parafine and vaseline I imagine of the lowest grade. It would probably work to protect stuff for storage, but I wouldn't want to use it on wood. I dont imagine it would ever get very hard. Johnson's paste wax in the yellow and red can is cheap too and much better quality for finishing.

I knew I had seen this somewhere.

For a Black finish on iron

one quart linseed oil
one big jar petroleum jelly
one wax toilet bowl ring

melt all in a double boiler

let cool, apply to hot iron with a cotton rag.

The site where I found this a beekeeper said they couldn't be beeswax for two reasons one they are gooey at room temp, beeswax is not two the cost is way to low for beeswax

To take the stickyness out of the toilet wax just melt it 50/50 with parifine or candle wax,i use this to make artifical sinew by soaking nylon cord in it melted and i think it would work for polishing metal or wood!!!!!.
