Adding Nickle
I have been thinking of trying to add some nickle to my cable blades. Would arc welding beads of pure nicle into the billet work?any one know what kind of rod to use? Thanks Mike |

Mike, I take the cable apart and clean it up , then wrap nickel sheet around the strands and put it back togather. Some nickel welding rod be used the same way. Gib |

Mike, Here's what I have done. Start with nickle99 rod. Using a light hammer, break all of the flux coating off the rod. Now 3/32 was the smallest rod I could get and was too thick for what I had in mind. So I took the cleaned rod to the forge and flattened it out as best I could. I then split the the flattened strip with tin snips. After I had my cut down strips of nickle, I took my cable bundle apart. I was using 3/4" cable with 7 skeins in a 6 around one pattern. So I wrapped the knickle strand around three of the outside skeins. This is important to note. NICKLE WILL NOT FORGE WELD TO NICKLE. You do not want any of the nickle strands to come in contact with each other. That is why I wrapped only three of the outside skeins. I then welded the cable and worked it like normal. You can find the knife in this thread pub42.ezboard.com/fcustomknifedirectoryforumfrm18.showMessage?topicI D=592.topic And, you can see how I did it, here on my site. sjaqua.tripod.com/cable.htm Scott B.
