Good to see a finished product! That's a good looking first knife. It's a heck of a lot better than my first knife. The chipped tip may be from a heat treatment issue. It could be that it wasn't tempered enough and the blade was still brittle or you might've overheated. Either way, its still a good job on your first blade and definitely come back and post more knives; we love to see them.

For a first knife its not bad. Did you test your heat treat? The brass rod test would be a good one. If the blade is too brittle you would want to find out now and not when the chips were down...

Nice job on the recovery from warpage and overall nice work for a "firsty". Learning to work with minimal tools will only improve your work as you progress. Makes you get up close and personal with the process.
When you coming back stateside and will where you be stationed? Like to personally invite you to one of my Trackrock Hammer-ins down here in GA when you get back. No, not all the attendees are hammer heads, lot of quality stock removalist attend as well. Thank you for your service and stay safe. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
