Bush neck knife

It's 1065 with an integral socket handle. The socket is round and tapered, ready to recieve a spear shaft. The total length of the knife is 5 and 7/8ths inches, tip to butt. The hikot is purple heart wood. The handle and hikot are wrapped with rattan and sealed with natural pinon pine rosin. The neck strap is braided hemp, with wild cochineal die.

Tai, you keep up that kind of work and someday you're going to be a national treasure. I'm stunned with the beauty of that piece. The whole package is most excellent. I don't know how else to describe it. I'm at a loss for words.

You must be feeling somewhat better. This isn't the knife I likes so much a few weeks ago, is it? I really think you've found the combo for your socketed knives....

Tai,
your work just seems to get better and better.

How would one go about hafting that, could you put in a pin or something.

I think just a good tight friction fit on the taper would be enough, no pin. The hard part would be getting it apart. That's why I didn't make the shaft. I was afraid I'd get it stuck.

If you ever did use it as a spear, you would probably have to saw the shaft off afterwards and dig it out, or just leave it.

Really?

Hmm.

Is that knife **GASP** for sale.

with a spear/knife like that I could hunt and butcher with one tool. I guess I'll try to find some more recipes for bunny.

Can I see more pictures of the socket. I assume the handle wrapping is slightly elastic. might it not, unwind or snap if you stick a shaft in there?

thanks

Here's a butt shot. The back is upset for extra thickness and flanged out to help keep the wrappings from slipping.

The odds of it opening up are mighty slim.

It might be for sale in a few days... if I don't decide to keep it.
