"Model of the Week" (Week no. 11 Model 11)
Hi All!
Well let's say this one is just a little late starting, but better late than never. Perhaps the relative unpopularity of the "Alaskan Skinner", which was designed in 1952 by guide Tommy Thompson can be used as an excuse for not getting this one going. Or one can get to the truth of the matter that we moderators have failed you... Now I'm afraid I don't actually have a #11, but I'm betting that at least one of you does. So please let's see what you've got in the way of this model which can be found in blade lengths of 4, 4.5 and 5 inches. Cheers! I didn't realize that the #11 was supposed to be unpopular. I really like mine that I picked up from Rick Ward last year. These pictures are nothing fancy as I just went and took them for this posting. 4.5" blade, N/S hilt.

Moose, good show! Let's see those skinners!
We are a bunch of laggard's for letting this one slide for so long Well, the holidays are winding down, everyone is well rested and fattened up, it's a new year and time to get this show on the road again Thanks Gary for getting this off to a great start! Nice finger grip stag and looks comfortable to the hand too. Great grind lines and a compass to find your way home with to boot. Thanks! seuss Last edited by Seussbrother; 01-05-2006 at 09:46 PM. |

My Model 11 Family. I'm kinda partial to this model.
My 2 favorite of the lot, a 4.5 and 5". Anyone know where I can get a 4" of the same vintage to match these? |

SteveM, what a family of elevens! Looks like you've about cornered the market. Thanks for sharing this wonderful collection with us! How long have you been accumulating these? A collection like this doesn't come together overnight for sure! What is the oldest one of the bunch?

Thanks, these all were accumulated over the past 2 years. As for the oldest, I'm not sure between the 2 in the second picture. I'd guess and say the 5" on the right is oldest but I'm not sure. The 5" has a deeper more squared thumb notch at the top which I thought was on the earlier knives but the 4.5" has a deeper choil. I guess it's a tossup between them.

1st attempt at a pic Randall Model 11 Norwegian Style
I hope this works. ($50.00 camera) I spent too much money on Randall's and I don't have money for anything else. This is one of my favorites. Mammoth Ivory handle that is absolutely flawless with leather, brass, and what looks like (?) elephant ivory spacers and Norwegian style pommel handle.

Gary, Steve, Mitchell and Patrick! Thanks for showing us your "Skinners".
I can see that the model #11 is much more popular than I had thought. Steve, you will have to get two more of these soon, so you can have eleven 11's. Are there anymore of these little beauties out there? Cheers! Moosehead __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Hi Tom!
Great photo of a great knife! I'm afraid with the new software changes here, I'm at a loss to tell you how to get rid of the thumbnail, other than to consult a manicurist. Sorry! Cheers! Moosehead P.S. Is there a "nail technician" in the house to help Tom? __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

Mine are missing the thumbnails because the photos are hosted on my own webspace and not uploaded to the forums webspace. I am only linking to my photos.
