Couple of finished bird/trout/small game knives
Here's two that I recently finished. The one with Maple was commissioned by a friend. The other I made to have a spare to sell. Both are 1/8" 1095, one with spalted Maple, the other is Padauk. The Maple has black liners, both have thumb grip decorative file work. Blades are 3 5/8" X 3/4", overall length approx 7 1/2".

I like clean lines and simplicity in a knife and those are very much both. I haven't used padauk, but I just bought a 1/4 by 2x24 piece at Asheville hardware. Nice knives.

Asheville hardware? We're close to one another! I'm in Hendersonville, actually out in Edneyville near Bat Cave. __________________ Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gpopecustomknives/ Gloria In Excelsis Deo!! Last edited by WNC Goater; 05-29-2016 at 07:27 PM. |

Nicely done Goater.
Knife doesn't have to be ugly to do serious work. Someone will be lucky to own one. I use a bit of paduak from time to time and it will stain a little but you'd never notice it on these old beat up hands. It finishes nicely with a little natural chatoyance for fun in the sun. The dust is definitely oily so it sticks to most everything, but not nearly as bad as osage and the "yellow snow". You going to make the down hill trip to the Blade Show next weekend? Come by and see me if you do. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
