My research indicated that CPM154 was just 154CM blown through an aresol nozel while liquid, allowed to cool to a plastic state while falling into a pile of very fine steel pellets (still above forge welding temps), then pressed into a billet, thus homogenizing the blend.
I heat treat CPM154 in accordance with a 154CM/ATS-34 recipe.
If they are chemically different these days, then I am in error.

That's exactly right Andy, and like argel said as well, because of the CPM process, the CPM154 will be "tougher" due to it's finer microstructure. The only difference between the two is the carbide size. The carbides in the older 154CM version. I was looking to post a pic of the two different microstructures of the two steels to show their carbide size, but could only find a pic of the CPM154, which shows carbide size of < or = 10 microns, and then a description of carbide size in 154CM being as large as 25 microns.
