Stabilizing.
It seems from previous posts that a few of you stabilize your own wood.Is this a fairly easy process and is there any info on the net, books etc? Thanks. Kelly |

This is just my (oft repeated) opinion: the investment in time and requipment required to do a *good* job of stabilization at home makes it very easy for me to justify the $12 per pound charged by pros like WSSI and K&G. |

Stabilizing
Kelly, The only printed information I've come across on stabilizing handle materials is in "The Complete Bladesmith" by Jim Hrisoulas. He covers a procedure he recommends for both Ivory and Antler. I don't know if it would work for wood, or what you would do differently if it doesn't. But that's the only advice I can give you. I'm sure there are more experienced smiths around to give you more info. Best of luck, Michael |
