Requesting Randall Pricing Information

Hello,

I am new to the forum and I have a question on pricing my Randall knives for sale. I have two Randall knives I'm contemplating selling, but I don't know what to ask for them. I'll most likely try to sell on ebay.

One of these knifes is a 4" or 4.5" skinner. I believe it is the Model 4. My father purchased it for a moose hunt he went on in British Columbia is 1965. I don't think he ever used it, as his guides took care of the moose. He never hunted again nor did he use the knife. Since I don't hunt big game I have never used it, either, and it has sat in my safe since his passing in 1995. I've attached a couple of photos below and I would appreciate others opinions on how much I should try and list it for.

The second knife is a Randal Model 1 All Purpose Fighting knife, given to me for my birthday in 1980. It's a beautiful knife. It's never been used, either, for obvious reasons, and it's never been sharpened. It's also a safe queen. I'd like to hear pricing advice on this one, also. Both knives come with the Randall leather sheath and sharpening stones. You may ask why I am selling these rather personal knifes. Well. the decision didn't come easily. I'm getting older, in poor health, and I have no children to pass these down to. And while I have a deep fondness for both of these knifes for obvious reasons, the plain fact of the matter is I would enjoy putting whatever money is gained towards something that I would enjoy, and would use.

Thanks,
Cliff
Seattle

Very nice knives Cliff!

The best way to determine a value is to see what similar items are selling for on ebay.

The Model 4 is a bare bones model without any options, and a sheath that is older than the knife it holds. (The shop did this quite often back then)

The Model 1 appears to be an 8 inch version with a black micarta handle. Needless to say, any of the "fighter" model are typically more desirable than the hunters.

Feel free to contact me at ta2bill@yahoo.com

Hi T-Bill,

I want to thank you very much for your advice. It is appreciated. I will take some time to monitor the Ebay auctions in order to get a good idea of what to set it at. Again, I appreciate your help.

Your model 4 knife is probably 1963-5 or so, the sheath probably being '61-'62 or so.

Here are some equivalents to your 60s model 4 for sale on E-bay. These model 4s, 7s, etc. all have brown button sheaths and are more or less time equivalent to your knife package, '60-'65 time span.

I would ignore the knife that has a "buy it now" price for $1500. Many people have outdated expectations. The first two are the ones I think most important for comparison of ASKING price to your knife. You also may find it more up to date and useful to watch the last one as it is active bidding.

Model 4-5, 1960-61, $785
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-US-C...4AAOSwRLZT84v7

Vintage Model 4-5, early 62-63 ? asking $810
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1960...IAAMXQrC9ScSZR

Model 7-4.5, about 1962, asking $1,500
http://www.ebay.com/itm/antique-Rand...IAAOSwyQtVw9os

Vintage Model 7-4.5, Late 50s (?) Heiser, ? current bid $405, five days left.

Below are two model 1s that may be more or less equivalent. Actually both may be a bit older and have some additional desirable features... but they should give you an idea of what people are ASKING for model 1s like yours.

Model 1 ? early ?70s, 7-spacer, features ? asking $825
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Randall-Knif...MAAOSwQYZWwJsU

Model 1 ? 1970s asking $855
http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-1970s-Cus...oAAOxyf1dTHfqK

This next one is much more collectable, knife is good, sheath rough, issues, but you can get some idea of what is being asked.

Model 1-7, early 1950s, Koren war-Vietnam, cornrow heiser sheath. $800
http://www.ebay.com/itm/U-S-Randall-...3D252300109239

There are many others on ebay if you search for "Randall knife 1." However, some are wildly overpriced, some have lots of desirable or collectable features, and some are con jobs. The key is to find ones in your general time period and condition. The ones above are the ones that appeared useful to try to bracket current price. Keep in mind your model 1 is not necessarily from a collectable time period, though it is indeed older. My advice is to be modest in your expectations.

Jacknola, thank you very much! I have assembled a list of ebay Randall's and it is way too large for me to even attempt to get a handle on, so your narrowing it down is a tremendous help. And it is really valuable to hear real world prices and descriptions from realRandall collectors on this site. Thanks again.

Here is a little more realistic price for a Model 4-4" on ebay right now. Although it is not quite as old as yours, I'm actually quite surprised that it hasn't sold already!

Thank you. That's a beautiful knife. I'll include this auction in my list. Appreciate the help.
