Folding daggers/Double edged blades?

Hi Les,
I've been looking for a long time to find a good folding double edged blade witha truly reliable lock. A dagger is possible, but a symmetrical blade isn't necessary. The lock is a problem. A framelock is preferable to a liner lock IMO, but besides the venerable Rolling Lock, they all make me a bit nervous. So, what's out there? What do you think of them?

Hi Howard,

Folding daggers are generally a bad idea for practical use. First, there are very few with a double edge.

Alan Elishewitz used to make the Phantom. Nice knive actually had about an inch of sharpened top edge.

I don't know about Canada, but here in the land of hightened tension over weapons of little or no destruction. One of these baby's would send you right to Jail.

Because of the inteneded purpose of the dagger, which is to kill. This is one of the few knives that could actually see some twisting and turning. Which could affect the lock.

Darrel builds a very strong frame lock, I don't know if the knife is double edge or not. Generally the ones that are have handles wider than necessary.

You might check with Darrel or Alan and see if the can build you something special.

Personally, this is one type of knife I would prefer to be a fixed blade.

Thanks Les.
Double edged knives are lawful to possess in canada - so far. I've got a Phnatom from Allan, but it's a liner lock and the top edge isn't sharp. You could only sharpen part of the edge anyway because most of it is exposed when closed.
I agree with you about the fixed blade being superior for this particular type of blade, but i thought I'd ask you if there was something out there I didn't know about - you are always a few steps ahead
Thanks again

HJK

Bob Dozier has a tab-lock folding dagger you can get with one or both edges sharpened:

Bob Doizier DK-TD Dagger

I have one with one sharp edge. It's a good knife.

Thanks. Interesting knife.

Tab lock? How does it work and how well does it hold up?

Darrel, makes them unsharpened on the back, but if it's ok in Canada, I am sure he could sharpen it.

The problem with the Madd Maxx having a double sharpened edge is that when closed the spine is not fully inside the handle. If it were sharpened you could end up with some really nasty cuts.
