S30v
Took one of my survival type knives and used it to chop down most of my wife's rose bushes then moved onto a tree that needed trimmed. It chopped thru 2" branches quite easily and after an hour of this the edge was still razor sharp, not the slightest chip in the edge, stropped it a little and it shaved hair with no problem. Has anybody else done any personal testing?

I've done quite a bit of testing with S30V, but more oriented towards toughness than wear resistance, and I've not found it lacking much in any area. It's one tough and impressive steel, though I'd still be inclined to rank it below CPM-3V in most performance areas. The fact that it's stainless is a very big plus though.
My friend and fellow knifemaker Rob Patton did some testing similar to yours and found S30V to preform pretty much as you've stated. He immediately switched to it for most of his stock removal blades. |
