Welding Talonite

Are there any problems welding a piece of steel threaded rod to talonite for a stick tang knife? I've never used talonite before and I'm thinking about trying a piece. Thanks.
Tom

Hopefully Rob will show up for this one. I have to believe that is not an easy thing to do. Since Talonite is mostly cobalt, it may not weld at all.

ROB, HELP!!!!

There is cobalt (stellite) welding rod made for use on steel when hardfacing excavator buckets This should work.

Check the stellite site www.stellite.com Stellite and Talonite are essentially the same material.

Welding

Talonite weld beautifully! You dont need Stellite rod, if you are using a stainless bolt for the tang, weld with stainless rod. Also use stainless or high nickel rod if using carbon steel for the tang, but I would reccomend stainless for obvious reasons. Weld it just like you would anything else, no worries about annealing. (I am talking about arc, tig or Mig welding) If you are gas welding, instead of welding, use a good high silver braze. Hope this helps!

(Thanks for being patient Jerry!)

Jerry,
You just think you can screw up things if left alone. I am the master in that department and as far as I know there isn't anyone even close.
