Custom Folding Knife by Bone
Hi to all, this is my first post.
Just got a nice piece and trying to verify its authenticity and origin. I will be uploading a picture soon. Its a basic folding knife with a bone insignia on the blade. The other side has J770. Someone told me there was a guy in the 40s named Bone that used that mark. Anyone out there own other knives by Bone? Thank you Robert |

Custom Folding Knife by Bone
Robert, Ralph Bone was a knifemaker from Lubbock, TX. He quit back in the late 70's, or sometime in that era, and sold his business to Charlie Hipp. Chalie was making knives when I started in 1983, and used the name Hipp Bone for his name and logo. One of the collectors from Texas, Scott Somers, is, or used to be, a Bone collector. The last email I had for him is somers@connect.net. Scott may be the most knowledgable person I know of about Bone knives.
If I remember correctly, Ralph is teaching engraving at the GRS school in Kansas. Hope this helps. |

i have a funny Bone story. A few years back, I bought the entire set of Knives Annual from 1981 to 2000 from off one of the knife forums. The guy told me he didn't need the books anymore because all he collected now was Stones and Bones. I thought he switched his hobby to archeology

Bob, that was Scott. The last time he posted on the TKCL he was trying to sell his entire collection, and was going to start rebuilding an old car with his son.

Scott no longer is collecting and is trying to sell the collection intact.
He did have a few Bones at one time, but then was exclusively collecting Stones. I believe he has a friend that collects Bones. But he should be able to point you in the right direction to authenticate it. His e-mail address is scott@flagpoles.com. |
