Lady's Knife

Had an inquire about what kind of knives were carried/used in Medieval times by Women.
Eating knives is particular. I know that a Sax would be one style but there had to be others.
Help any info and links would be appreciated.
Thanks Gib

There's a small softcover book published on eating utensils. It covers back to Roman times and is chalk full of pics. I'll get the isbn number for you when I get home. If there's a particular time/region you're interested in, I could scan in some pics. I also have about 40 small knives from 7th century-1600's in my collection if you ever want exact measurements and such of some utility knives. Many of these are seaxes with ~3-4" blades.

If you consider Viking period as a partof "Medieval times", look at this thread:
http://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=22278
It's about a knife I made as an almost exact replica of an actual knife found in a Viking woman's grave.

If you are interested in a later Medieval period (XII - XIV cc), I suggest the "Knives and Scabbards from the museum of London" book.

Good luck with your research.

Alex.
