Tortoise Shell folder and engraving........

A couple of months back before the Atlanta Blade Show ?.. Tim Britton sent me this little knife. Tim picked this up at a knife show somewhere up North and asked me to engrave it. I turned out it is a knife I made about twenty years ago. I can?t remember where I got the Tortoise shell handle material but it was legal at that time. Now that I think about it, it maybe older than that. Anyway, I was tickled to be able to do it. What you see is the finished product. The little plow handled folder is about 3 ? inches long open?.a nice little gentlemen?s knife. I wanted to try something simple but elegant. The quilting pattern is quiet small and each little flower-et is about twice the size of a pin head. Most of the engraving was done with a square graver and the flower-et engraving done with a flat graver. The bolster is nickel silver and the engraving was blackened with Brownell?s Cold Blue.
Thanks for the look!
Jim

Jim

I work very pretty; I am a lover of the tortoiseshell (turtle) you make that the knives are very elegant. The extraordinary engraving as you always carries out it.

A greeting

Montejano

Fine job, Jim. I saw this knife in your shop before you engraved it- it was elegant then, but this dresses it up very nicely.

Nice approach Jim.
Like Don, I saw this in the works at Jim's studio.
Funny...the story of the "Prodigal Son" comes to mind...
Jim, I think you need to make more of these.

Tim

I like it too Jim... Must have been neat to see this knife again after all these years.. Did Tim actually not know you had made it, or was he just being sly?? I really think you should make more knives.. That bowie you did for that General that retired last year was exceptional.. did you ever post a photo of that one?? Best, Rich

Thanks for the kind replies.......
As I mentioned...It's always good to see these old friends.

Rich...Tim Britton knew exactly who made the knife...the name is stamped on the blade. I never asked him where he picked the knife up.... I am sure it might have been in someone's collection since it look as good as the day I made it....it was well taken care of.
To answer your question on knife making.....I do make a few knives a year....only a few. The bowie you mentioned...I did take some photos but, I can't find them. Anyway, thanks for the comments....

Jim the grid is great. I walked up to the GRS table when you just finished telling how to do this. Sorry I missed it. Maybe next time. Great looking knife. Thanks for showing it.

Joe
