Temper Question ?
Yesterday when tempering a knife( 3 times in the oven @ 400 degrees for 2 hrs each time) on the second time in the oven I left and ran down to the hardware store, when down there I ended up spending 4 hrs helping a neighbor install a new altenator in their car. With all the running around for a new altenator and installing I forgot about the knife.......Did it do any harm to the knife ? or no big deal and should I go on with the third temper ? Any advice is mucho appreciated....
Thanks Shane. |

Run a file across the edge and see what happens.

I'd forget about the third temper. You are okay with what you have. Another temper will soften the blade more Two tempers is fine, especially at 400 F or a little above. Time has more of a linear effect while temperature is more non-linear. If both temper sessions where at 400 you should be okay.
