Photos from the Grand Master Seminars
I'm out here in Kansas having a serendiptious time with engravers from around the world. What treat to have some of the world's greatest engravers from Belgium, Italy, Austria and of course the US all in one place sharing the common love of the art.
There is much to tell about this weekend, including the annoucement of the Engraving Arts degree by Emporia State University and I will get it all recorded soon, but here are some photos from Friday nights fun gathering. http://pilkguns.com/engraving/gm1/index.htm |

The thought of being there as a mere fly on the wall gives me goosebumps.

Fly on the wall, yep, I wish I was able to listen in all all the converstion across the two classrooms and the break area. It was like a three ring circus, not knowing where to turn as engravers were showing each other their work and discussing teqhniques to accomplish them. It was really a treat seeing a lot of people that you have only seen their work in magazines or books and here they were, right in front of you telling you how that they did what they do.
photos from Ron's Class http://pilkguns.com/engraving/gm1/index.htm the Friday night sing along... and dang it, I missed a pic of Alain Lovenberg from Belgium playing his violin http://pilkguns.com/engraving/gm2/index.htm Socializing over the weekend and trading signatures http://pilkguns.com/engraving/gm3/index.htm The annoucement at Emporia State University about the new Engraving Arts degree, we clean up pretty well don't we? http://pilkguns.com/engraving/gm4/index.htm Some photos from Winston's class, they started out doing sculptures in clay in little bowls that Winston himself made.... how cool is that. http://pilkguns.com/engraving/gm5/index.htm more photos are here as well and info to sign up for next years Grand Masters program http://www.grandmastersprogram.com/ |

Requirements for Masters attendees
Thanks for doing all that photog work Scott. I wish I was a competent engraver so I could attend next year. What a hoot that would be, I'd even bring my Dobro with me.
I'll have to hang around Jim Small a lot more and soak it all in if I'm gonna be able to attend one of these things before they decide to stop doing them. I like Ron Smiths toolbox |
