gypsy gambler

That name came to me today when I was hammering this one out. Kinda weird with the finger guard on an intergral. Does it look funny?

Thanks Mac. I have mixed feelings about it myself. It will be a simple matter to nip it off at any time if it don't look right later.

I was thinking, driving home from work this morning that all I ever post pics of is blanks. I was wondering why that was and it came to me. At this point, I am in a sense, done. when the hammerin is over so is the fun for me. I have to force myself to finish the ones I do finish. I gotta get over that. At least I have identified the problem.

A nice looking blank, are you going to curve the tang to fit the curved handle piece in the photo?

The little guard piece could use something, maybe file a very tiny heart or some other shape on the tip of it, or punch a hole and set a tiny gem inside? Just a thought.

know what you guys mean about the hammering being the fun part . it's nice to see something a little different [ the finger guard ] - so if you don't like it when the knife's done , let us see it anyways before you nip it off . was at a muzzleloading shoot today , and i had to look at every knife anyone was carrying , even the poorly made ones . i like to look at all the different ideas , there's always something to learn and an idea to be gained . now i'm not critisizing hammerdown , or any one on this forum about their knife work - just saying i'd like to see the knife in the finished state with the finger guard - i think it's an interesting idea . paul

No sir, it does not look funny to me. Looks mighty cool. If you are not sure, why not make another just like it without the finger guard?? Two knives are better than one, right????

I like hammerin' a bunch, but my favorite part of all is the midnight heat treat sessions!!!! I don't have to concentrate as hard and screw up as much = have a drink and watch it glow.

VV, this is about my fourth intergral. It won't be my last. I have not finished one yet, but was hoping to finish this one.
Mike, yeah I'm going to try and curve that tang to fit that stag.

Work got interupted yesterday. Fired up the forge and ran out of propane. Made a little progress. I got tired of my hands cramping from trying to work with the small squares for the spacers. Figured I would drill an ream them, then cut them out. Same with the butt cap, hammered and center punched ready to drill.

Roc, that knife will be sweet when it is done.
How far off do you think you are?

Hard to say Dean. Something always comes up to prevent me from working on it. I will be happier when I get it back in the fire and and get the blade to final shape. I plan on it being a semi persian-esque up swept dagger, if that makes sense. I have been toying with the idea of adding a guard. If I don't add it to this one, it has givin me ideas for the next. Thank you for asking. Has the knife I sent you arrived yet?

Not yet Roc, I keep hoping I will get a pleasant surprise when I get home, but nothing as of yet.
Hopefully Tomorrow.

I will email you when I have received the package, to put your mind at ease.
I know I was pretty relieved when I heard that David had received his KITH from me.
Take care.
