CPM S35V heat treatment
I am thinking of switching from CPM S30V, that I have been using for several years, to CPM S35V. I have a very good formula for heat treating and tempering the S30V that gives me a consistent final hardness of 60RC.
My question is can I use my present heat treating formula for S30V for the S35V and obtain the 59-60RC in that steel for my blades. My present formula is 1500 degree for 15 min. Ramp to 1950 degrees with a soak time of 25 minutes. cool down using alum. plates. Temper at 550 degrees for 2 hours three times. Since I am not set up for cryo treatment between 2 tempers, I added the third temper and 98% of my blades come out dead on 60RC with a occasional one at 59 or 61 as tested by a Ames hardness tester. __________________ RELH Last edited by Bob Hatfield; 09-01-2014 at 02:40 PM. |
