After the acid etch

After the acid etch is complete and soaked in ammonia, what do you guys do as far as polish, use semichrome, etc.?

If its a deep etch and I want a nice polish, I steel wool the black junk off, then simichrome it for a while after I've given it a pass with white buffing compound and a loose wheel. If i want to keep it black, I boil it in a baking soda/water mix and then seal it with renwax. If i want only shiny highpoints, i will hit it up with 1000 grit paper to hit the high points, but its easy to take off too much even at that grit.

Heres a deep etch, buffed and polished. its all shiny silver with deep texture:


Deep etch, steel wooled, no buff: Matte in valleys and polished at high spots


Deep etch, hit with 1000 on high spots, then heat blued:
