magnetic neck knife sheath questions

I'm going to use a magnetic sheath for my neck knife project. What type of magnets work best for these? ie...what strength and such. The knife is very light, so I wouldn't think I'd need a very strong one.

I was going to use a thin wooden sheath with wood matching the knife handle. I was looking at the smaller magnets that could be glued down into a recessed slot in the wood then covered with felt. There's an amazing variety of magnets available in those type sizes. Is there any one particular type that people like the most for this?

i use the neodium rare earth magnets.if you do a search under rare earth magnets on the web you will getmany places to choose from.i prefer the .5 diameter x .063 thickness.make sure to cover the magnet with epoxy or something to prevent scratches.they are only 30 cents each.

magnets

i got some for the wooden Kukri sheath i made from Lowes, i only needed one to keep it in, and it has a 12 inch blade, i used fostner bits ($6.99) from harbor freight to make the flat bottom hole in the poplar wood for the magnet.

Don't forget about Ebay. You can find literally tons of them there. Just do a search for rare earth magnets.

Thanks. We have some electronic surplus stores around here that have boxes full of the small ones. Most are rare earth.
