That is a cool blade. I didn't know they were serial numbered... if all Randalls had been so identified so that we knew who purchased them and when, a lot of the mystery about old RMKs wouldn't exist.
Here is a brief information about the possible inspiration for the sasquatch... from Wikipedia Gurkha Khukuri "The kukri or khukuri (Nepali: खुकुरी khukuri) is a Nepalese knife with an inwardly curved blade, similar to a machete, used as both a tool and as a weapon in Nepal. Traditionally it was, and in many cases still is, the basic utility knife of the Nepalese people. The kukri is designed primarily for chopping. The shape varies a great deal from being quite straight to highly curved with angled or smooth spines. There are substantial variations in dimensions and blade thickness depending on intended tasks as well as the region of origin and the smith that produced it. As a general guide the spines vary from 5?10 mm at the handle, and can taper to 2 mm by the point while the blade lengths can vary from 26?38 cm for general use..." |

Hi all!
The Sasquatch Randall models (large and small) were originally designed by authorized RMK dealer Doug Kenefik and can only be ordered from him. Curiously only the large knife is serialized. The "small" has an eight inch stainless blade. The large is eleven inches and carbon steel. Cheers! David __________________ It takes less effort to smile than to frown ! |

David, I have had matched pairs with matching serial numbers. Can't say all, but I can say some were numbered.

At this time, The current production numbers are in the 840's. That is not many of them considering they are nearly 40 years old! Interesting factoid: The first knife delivered to Doug in Nov. 1977 is NOT #001. It isn't etched at all! |

That is some good original info Bill. There may have been 840 or so made in 40 years, but dang few seem to show up on E-bay.

The Sasquatch being part of the Model 12 Bowie family, and the only dealer special of anywhere near that size of knife, creates problems of it's own. The shop only allows 5 big knives per order, per dealer, so that severely hinders production. With only a five knife limit, if a customer or two orders a few various Bowie's, it doesn't leave much room for Sassie! And a single customer could order both large and small variations, and there goes two slots! Any vacant Bowie type knife slots left open in Doug's monthly order are filled with Sasquatch variations, and Steve Peters buys every one of them. Actually, quite smart on his behalf...... |
