Padauk and O1

Here is a knife I made in the last 2 days. Like I have stated earlier, I am new at making knives, but learning something each day. The handle on this one may look different, but it's so comfortable to use, it fits in your palm so well. What style knife would you call this? I came up with this design.

I'm a retired Fire-Fighter and I love to fool with making Knives. We have some good Knife making schools here in the US and hopefully, I can attend one in the Spring. I use mainly a Grizzly 2 x 72 belt sander and of course other tools. Good Luck to everyone here, this is such a great forum

Frank

Here are the stats on this Knife:

Steel..... 1/8" O1 Convex Ground and sharpened and put an "old" patina
on Blade.

Handle.....Padauk ( I love this wood) sanded to 1000 grit and waxed with
"Briwax" then buffed on buffer.

Pins..... 1/8" brass pins

Blade Length.....4 1/4"

Overall Length.....8 1/4"

Widest Part of blade.....1 1/4"

That looks great. Some might call it a straight-point skinner. The blade style reminds me of some of the French/English trade knives of the 17th and 18th centuries, especially with the patina finish. It looks like a very useful design.

Great looking blade there.
One bit of advice, don't leave it sitting in the sun or light with it in the sheath.
The back end will end up darker than the portion in the sheath.
Padauk darkens quite a bit over time, grandpa has a big sweet vase he made using it as striping in it, the stripes look brown now after all the years it's sat around. Still looks reddish on the underside. I've heard that finishes with a UV protectant can help, *shrugs*

I like the wood though, works nice.
