Introduction post...
Hello to everyone in the Caffrey Workshop forum! My name is Mike and I live in Indiana. Ed, If you remember the old PalTalk days, you may remember a noob back then that went by the PalTalk handle of "Bishop"...that was me. If you dont remember dont feel bad, I forgot alot of those guys' names as well. Lots of fond memories from back then, and tons of good info from from guys like Ed, Ron Claiborne, Terry Hearn, and others I just cant remember their names.
Unfortunately, about the time I was planning on starting to try to forge my blade for the JS test...life had other plans. I wont go into the long details, but a shattered forging hand, an instant family, and the development of some health issues knocked me out before I really got a good start in knifemaking. Now...some 13 years later I am starting over by working on getting my shop going again. After about a month long search I found a decent anvil, but I still need to get my forge rebuilt, and get another 2 x 72 belt sander, and all the other tid-bits that go along with it. Hopefully, I will be putting some hot steel on the anvil by late spring. I see theres a lot of great talent on the forum, some stuff that really knocks my eyes out! I look foward to making some new friends here and re-learning everything...I would love to share my first few knives I made but unfortunately the few finished knives I made before shattering my hand at work back then were stolen from my vehicle. Really stung too cause included was the 2nd knife I ever made (a chainsaw damascus skinner) my 3rd knife (a cable damascus skinner) and 5th knife (an L6/Nickel random pattern skinner from the billet I made with Ron Claiborne at his forge in Tennessee). All three had very high sentimental value to me. Ok enough rambling...anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and look foward to learning from the huge pool of talent here. |

Not actually up and running yet, but slowly working towards it. My goal is to be layin hot steel to the anvil by early spring I hope. I'm having some electrical trouble with my shop and may need to have a new line run. If so that will be a bit of a financial set back...not gonna be able to afford that until tax time (there goes the new KMG I was hoping to get) At any rate, I have to take care of xmas first so the shop is gonna just have to be without power for a while. It will all come together somehow eventually.
