Rob, how do you know this? I'm not questioning what you say, I just mean, what signs tipped you off that that had happened? I just had to have my PC cleansed of 14 virus monsters last week, and I had Norton's running. Somehow they had snaked by it. How could I or anyone else for that fact, know that what happened to you and Jonathan was happening (or had happened) to them? Enlighten us Bro. Virus writers/spreaders should be lifted off the ground, spiked to a tree via a Bowie knife through the genitals, and left for the carrion birds to eat alive.

Dana,
Make that an old, blunt, rusty bowie:evil

They got me good earlier this year, upset some people I was dealing with, almost cost me a small sum of pennies

I only found out when someone with better av (or who was more switched on) let me know (kind of them, bearing in mind what I'd set upon 'em)

I went to sighn onto my acct
yesterday about 2:00 PM.
My password wouldnt work,
i notified AOL
and was told that since the acct
was in her name they couldnt tell
me anything.. Well finally
today my wife called them
back and they told me.
That someone had hacked my
acct and was sending
viruses via e-mail..
So as a safety measure they
shut down my acct..
Thats why my password wasnt working..

So "AOL" is the one whol told me
what was happening..
Was just glad to not see any
off the wall posts with my name
attached here today

When double checking for viruses you might try out www.trendmicro.com
and use their free online HouseCall virus detection.

With Norton or McAfee you have to make sure that you keep your system updated. The minute you hear about a new virus go to their sight and download the updates even if you use Symantecs automatic LiveUpdate or whatever McAfee calls theirs. Otherwise new viruses will slip throught the cracks. Also ask your ISP or webhost or whoever is your email provider if they have anti-spam/anti-virus software they can setup - a lot of viruses get caught by my supplier before they ever download (I get a message from the supplier that a bad message got stopped.)
I've been virus free for 10 years now by following this regimen. (knock on wood!!!)

Also stay off those porn sites cause they're the worst for parsing your email address and sending infected junk!

Dana I agree - except they should be left upside down with a slow fire below as well!

Chuck

BACK DOOR DOWN LOADS

My ol' lady goes to ITT and she found out lastnight certain "helpful" downloads have back doors that allow hackers to use your connection to gain access to the net free of charge. Sending viruses to your friends is one way they get their jollies.
known sites that have back doors:
Weather Bug (what a shame)
bonzi buddy
I will post more if i here of them. One (sure?) way to keep them out is a good firewall. It tells you when and who is trying to hack you. You then report them to your IP where they can be caught and prosecuted. If you notice your system resourses seems to always be low or fluxuates, chances are you are supporting up to 30 peoples internet habit. This blew my mind!

When i had high speed cable access, i used a firewall.
And you can just set there and watch
one after another trying to break into
your system..

In my case someone hacked into my account here on the CKD's PM's.

My home system shoudl be reasonably secure and I haven't had a problem there.
