Here are couple of bowies that I intend on taking to Atlanta in June for my JS test. I'm hoping that I get the other three knives done in the next couple of weeks. Please let me know what you think about them. Your feedback is appreciated. The first one is made from 5160 steel, 416 stainless guard and pommel. The ferrule is stippled silicon bronze and stainless. Sambar Stag handle. This knife has been donated to the Arkansas Knife Makers and will be given away at the 2011 show in Little Rock Arkansas. The next bowie is made of 5160 steel, 416 stainless fittings with silicon bronze/stainless ferrule. Desert Ironwood handle with mosiac pins. Regards Ron

Both knives look great. Something that I always tell those who are testing for JS...be very cautious submitting knives with stag. Most of the time I recommend NOT to submit knives with stag handles. The reasons are that it's nearly impossible to find a piece of stag that is nice and straight. This often makes the handle look like it's out of line with the blade...which is "the kiss of death" during the judging. I'm not saying that a stag handled knife will not pass, just that by submitting stag handles knives, your taking a chance.

Thanks for the advice about the stag. I'm having several Masters look my work over before I make the trip to Atlanta. I don't want to go to thr expense of going and fail. I will have Mike Williams, Jerry Fisk, James R. Cook, and several other masters look my knives over before I submit them. If they don't think the knives will pass, I will stay home. Regards Ron

Good on ya Ron!! I always highly encourage everybody who is testing to get their knives inspected by as many MS as possible. It's just one more thing that an individual can do to ensure the money and time for the trip isn't wasted.
