What steel is it?

What kind of steel is your typical hand saw made from? ..just a cheap cross-cut saw from say, Lowe's?

FWIW,
I seem to remember that things like that fall into the 1060 to 1095 "cheap carbon" area, but don't quote me on it...... unless its marked bi-metal, I'm not sure how those are done. Some are plain old HSS drill steel too.....

I've never been a big fan of mystery steel. Even if you knew what "most" of those types of saws were made of, you still have no idea what yours is made from.

I wouldn't want to guess on these things today. The saws that companies like Stanley make are no sharpen throw away type !!
