?canned mosiac question?
Can you do canned mosiac without hammering,this question was posted elsewhere but wondered what the people here on the Outpost think.i wonder if heated high enough like wootz would the small grains of powder fuse solidly enough?If it wont work then how much reduction would be neccesary for thoughough welding?:confused:

haven't seen bowie post lately, but he'd know. think you'd need some kind of pressure to make it weld up. paul

when doing powdered steel, I was told you need to reduce 30% before the contents are completely solid, I've never stopped to check but by the way the can feels when welding and drawing I would say thats pretty close.

thanx Bill,thirty percent is a reasonable amount to do by hand,i know i wont be able to do fine figures and stuff because of the distortions but i have some ideas for some bold patterings,i will be trying it during summer breaK and should have a digital camera by then to post pics.
