? about tempering
i hardened a blade tonight and tempered it on my stove. the tip got blue and the rest is a bronze purple color. is this ok or what? if not what color should it be ? the ones ive done in the oven got real bronze color and no blue. thanks boo |

Hey boo, from what I've been told you're looking for a straw or bronze coler and to try and stay away from blue. If it was on say the very tip and maybe a 1/32 - 1/16 back, I don't know if I would worry about it. You could always regrind the tip. I had to do that to the one I just finished up from where I was peening the end of the tang over my butt plate. I was pretty light handed when regrinding it and it didn't even change colors at all. |

You don't want blue. The tip is pretty soft if it got blue. You could bend the tip if you use it. Not sure of your setup, but I would anneal and re-heat treat. Better to know it is right than to "Hope" it will be OK. |

thanks
thats what i thought thanks for helping me remember. the tip is blue back about 1 '' so ill normalize three times and re harden. this time its going in the oven , i was just trying to save some time and it cost me . ohwell live and learn. boo |
