Hello Yvonne, Glad to see your still going.
Wow! Your work is really evolving. I remembered your lioness and I loved her. Love the photo realism you put into your scrim. Great choice of subject. You can almost see the sun glancing across his face. Not easy to do in black and white. If I had one piece of advice, and take this with a grain of salt as I am no artist, be careful about trying to make it too much like a photo. I only bring it up because I know you said you work from photos. Light may wash out detail in photos and create hard lines delineating shadows from light. In real life, that seldom happens. Take a bit more artistic #######s and soften and/or blend those areas. Light and shadow should be treated just like color in paintings. Darker and more vivid as they get closer. Grayer and less distinct as they receded. Especially important in portraits to add depth and dimension. That said, this is another great job. Just like your lioness, you have an uncanny ability to capture an expression and mood of the animal. You can almost see this young male setting up from a kill on the savanna, staring off at something in the distance and trying to decide...friend or foe. Very cool. Well done! Can't wait to see the next one. Thanks for showing it to us. chiger, |
