From factory to 'Custom'...!
Guys,
Here's a knife I have just worked over for a fellow. He had seen my kit's and inquired about me customizing his Microtech LCC D/A folder. I gotta say, as production knives go this one is a great value. But--it is all beadblasted metal. Not very pretty. VERY good fit and finish from the getgo, and the engineering is incredible. Anywho, I am posting this here because it doesn't seem to fit into any of our other forums guidelines!  Hijacked! As you can see, I spent a bit of time doing my now-standard 'filework' ( I have YET to actually use a file, he he!). Nonetheless, I used a number of styles and techniques to achieve this look. Full coverage, too, on the liners. Look close and you'll see my .016" red spacer accent. Plastic plate--thanks Dennis!! What came out especially nice was my polishing of the beadblasted bolsters completely, then I taped them up and 'framed' them and re-beadblasted the center. Also the backspacer was just SO busy, that I decided to paint the hollows to accent the top pattern. WOW! So, I thought I'd just show you what this rookie can do to a good knife if he takes his time and get's creative. I even got a few bucks for the project. Nice Job! The spacer looks like a shark bite! I like the bolsters, too. A very nice update to a decent knife! Kinda like a custom job on a bike. Bob Sigmon

Glad you liked it. I'm pretty bold posting in the same forum as the engravers with this clunker, but HEY, That's all I got! ;)
Bob, you and another pointed out the relationship with the filework and the shark logo. I never knew it till it was over, and it's near perfect! Some things just fall into place.... Gib, I use 1/8" rotary stones and sanders with a Foredom shaft grinder. I DID do a tutorial on my work. It was posted in the Kit Forum and here's a look once again: Kit Tutorial w/filework Click on the first pic and hit the arrow from then on.... Like I need to give lessons here! Anyway, you asked. Boy you tackled this one really fast and really good! Seems like yesterday that you were first telling me about this... I think my favorite part is the inovative frame treatment to the bolster...I like that a lot! I know you've got access to all those juicy tools at the motorcycle shop...what did you use as a "bead" blaster? The paint in the filework is a very nice touch. I've been confronted with a similar problem on filework I just completed on my latest "EV"...and was thinking of testing out a solution much the same as you used here. Wasn't sure what to use to darken the negative spaces...what did you use for paint that is of a permanent enough nature? I've always had a high regard for microtech...just too darn industrial looking for my taste...you've dressed it up real nice!... Now Jerry's going to have to take it out for a night on the town. Hi Folks ,
I have this knife in my hot little hands now . I just can't believe what a difference in the looks of this knife Jim has made . All of his work is outstanding and his attention to the little things is amazing . I am completely happy with the knife and with Jim , he was a total professional and a great guy to deal with . I would recommend him highly to anyone looking for someone to do custom work on their knives . Again Jim , thanks for the outstanding work and I look forward to sending you more when you are ready .
