for hiden tangs I don't predrill holed. I drill after assembled.
full tang.... predrill holes in tang, and then drill handle slabs before gluing and pinning down.
when drilling holes in full tang to remove material/weight from the handle... I leave about 1/8"-3/16" gap around edge and pin holes.
