"Hattie" My new car
The British officer on duty was one of the "good" guys..no problem getting a vehicle. I shopped around the parking lot like a customer in a car dealers' and picked out a nice little sedan that had less than 200 miles on it.All wood grain interior, an expensive car-then I noticed, these were ALL
expensive cars...makes sense-money people could afford to get out of there in a hurry.
Once I got the hang of driving on my side of the road, Col. Martin was able to relax and enjoy the ride.We visited all the places where supplies had been distributed and he was able to gather his information and compile his reports.I still carried a big sack of candy and visited with the kids and their parents while he was doing his thing.Took us about 3 days, then he told me I would be hauling the Navy around.......
