"Hattie" Almost Done
That afternoon, word filtered down to gather in front of the command tent...Col. Martin came
out and told us that tomorrow morning some dignitaries wanted to thank us for our efforts, as
we were going home....He told us to pull our trucks up on the flight line , ready to load aboard
the planes, and get our personal stuff gathered up.
The one thing he said that brought cheers was that real American beer would soon be arriving,
courtesy of our British hosts,and that he did not expect to see one sober soldier by midnight.You
can see why we loved this guy.......
