Did you press the micarta or is that process you can do with a vacuum?
The pins are filled with pigmented epoxy so you can quite easily make the rose any colour you want. The red tubes are filled by sucking the epoxy up through like a straw, suction is generated using a syringe. Its messy but it works.

The emblem of my county Northamptonshire is a red rose hence the design.

The micarta is pressed in between two square aluminium extrusions but anything flat and rigid would do. I put a layer of cling film over the tang before fitting the bolsters and pressing in the micarta. The finished bolster/micarta scales can then be removed and drilled for the pins before glueing back on and riviting the bolsters.

Its a lot of fiddly work (it takes 2 hours to cut the denim) and if you get it wrong you have a big mess.
