Thumbs up Basic heat treatment and cryogenic treatment of air hardening steels

This course covers the heat treatment of air hardening steels such as 154CM, ATS34, A2, D2, CPMS30V, 440C, etc.

Using your own blade or material, the instructor will lead you through the basic hardening, quenching, and drawing stages. Home shop cryogenic treatment is included.

Minimum required equipment:

A furnace with an accurate controller capable of reaching and accurately maintaining up to 2,000 degrees fahrenheight.

Materials required:

Two quench plates made of flat ground steel or aluminum at least 1" thick x 6" x 12". Get scrap from a salvage yard or machine shop if possible. The larger and heavier the better. A few small holes won't hurt anything.

Stainless steel foil wrap, a pair of long tongs, heavy long cuffed leather gloves, and miscellaneous hand tools.

A styrofoam ice box for dry ice, or a liquid nitrogen dewar.

Duration of class is 2 weeks.

Cost: $39.95
